Had a look at Gemini PDA and GPD Pocket. Both nice devices, but too expensive for my use case:

I'd like to have a small, portable Linux powered device with keyboard in case I need to do emergency work on my Linux servers. It's mainly about SSH access and VPN + a proper keyboard. I don't need too much computing power. Would mainly use it for terminal work and minimal web browsing.

Do you have suggestions for similar, more affordable alternatives?

@thomas I'd have a look at some RasPi based solution like this one: http://www.noodlepi.com/about

@thomas maybe termux in an Android phone and a slim Bluetooth keyboard?

This would have been my recommendation as well.

@thomas

@thomas blackberry priv / keyone. the best smartphone i ever had, the coolest server restore tool...

@thomas
Nokia n900 maybe with postmarketos but their prices vary widely

@thomas
GPD MicroPC when it comes out later this year and IF it supports Linux

@thomas definitely *not* cheaper, but you could replace your smartphone with it as well: fxtec.com/pro1/
Released only with Android at the beginning, but with an open bootloader so other OSes can be expected.
