Does anyone remember wobbly windows / desktop cubes / fire / rain on desktop in Ubuntu?

Nobody needed these Compiz effects. But so many people had them enabled because they were a reason to use Linux :D

@thomas I used them on Debian for a few weeks before I got bored of it.

@thomas I'm still using those Compiz effect on my MATE desktop...

@thomas Jedes OS hatte doch sein "feature"... windows 3.11 hatte die coolen 3D Screensaver ;)

@thomas
Kde still has many of the effects available. Also, you can still run compiz standalone.

@thomas haha, good times. fan on max speed, all features enabled. :D
A really good thing it brought though was the shadow on the windows. kinda uncluttered a heavy-duty desktop...

@thomas I'm still using wobbly windows!
One that was really useful, though, was the one that progressively dimmed/desaturated windows the longer the user had been switched away from them.

If I remember correctly, the only other options at the time were Windows XP, which was pretty dated, or Windows Vista, which nobody liked. The compiz stuff seemed really modern at the time even though they mostly seem needlessly extravagant now.
