Imperialism, Queen Liz

I can't pretend to be as angry as people who have directly suffered as a result of the British empire. However I support the outright anger of people who're watching the handwringing over another dead monarch. The royals are still yet to even apologise for their involvement in colonialist violence.

Fortunately I think the empire might die alongside Liz. She was a figurehead that helped them hang onto an alluring pr. But nations are getting increasingly sick of it.

People will tell you to respect the dead, but this concern trolling and politics of politeness is just a mechanism to whitewash their reputation. Respect the dead if they've earned respect. I'm sure, personally, the queen may have been alright. Everyone has repealing characteristics. However her actions and the institution she represented conflict with that. And she had more power than you or I to do something about that.

I still don't quite know how Boris's sham institutional racism report managed to hold water, and quiet a fiery summer of dissent. But it only addressed a single facet of the colonial legacy that the British identity is built on. A lot of people are angry and want their stuff back. I'm starting to think that only the fracturing of the UK/"great" britain is the only way those who so proudly identify with the flag can start to reckon with the evils that flag also represents.
