I just listened to OK Computer for the first time. I am very embarrassed that it took me so long. I can see why people compare radiohead to muse, though I'd still say they have pretty distinct sounds.

@kingu_platypus_gidora Ah man, I actually really quite enjoyed it! I was working at the time, however, so it's not like it had my total attention. Are you a Radiohead fan in general?

@hearsepileup
Nope, did not knew them at all and thought maybe I was missing something.

Some say they became better with time so I might listen to newest stuff some day.

@kingu_platypus_gidora I knew a few of their hits, but I hadn't sat down and listened to a proper album before. I do quite enjoy Thom Yorke's voice TBH. I def enjoyed it enough to listen again. I stopped listening to new music a while ago and I'm trying to do something about that.

@kingu_platypus_gidora @hearsepileup How are Radiohead and Muse comparable? The first bores me, the second energizes me.

@hypolite @kingu_platypus_gidora 🤣

I know a lot of early Muse was seen as a Radiohead knockoff when they came on the scene. I really love the first three Muse albums, but I start to lose interest after that. I know a lot of people enjoy their later stuff but I just feel like it lost some of the raw energy they had in the beginning. Absolution was a really important album for me!

@kingu_platypus_gidora @hearsepileup I discovered Muse through the Guitar Hero III video game and the song Knights of Cydonia from the album Black Hole & Revelations and I've been casually enjoying what they've been doing all around. I'm not a huge fan but I enjoy coming back to it from time to time.

On the contrary I've never "understood" Radiohead, but listening to early works by both bands, I can see why they are compared, the singing style is similar with an emphasis on languishing sustains. But Muse soon took a more energetic musical approach while Radiohead stayed in that languor that I've never been able to enjoy.

@hypolite @kingu_platypus_gidora Ahhh I see, yeah they absolutely have similar vocal styles. However I'm yet to hear a Muse song that matches the energy of say, Citizen Erased, Absolution, New Born, Plug in Baby, Space Demetia, or even Knights of Cydonia as you say. There are definitely songs on Black Holes that are really good, it's just the album where I started to slide out of the grove they were playing. I got into them During the Origin of Symmetry/Absolution period. Changed my life!

@hearsepileup OK Computer might be comparable to the impact of Origin Of Symmetry. Of course, when comparing both, Origin wipes OK from the floor. But keep in mind when OK first came out. There was no real competitor in 1997.

@sthaydn For sure! I enjoyed my first listen. I can see why it had a big impact
